Mummy-ma

"Amma"
..
"Mummy"
..
"Mummy-ma"
"yes thangam"

Somehow he came up with his own way of calling me as "Mummy-ma". I always wanted Adhav to call me as "Amma". But sometimes, I address myself to him as Mummy, like - "Can you please do this for Mummy". Is that how he came up with "Mummy-ma"? The way he says "Mummy-ma" is sooooooo cute that I will feel I should respond to him immediately. And I do infact. Hope he continues with "Mummy-ma".

PS: Offlate he has come up with another word of calling me "Nanni". Wonder how he got this word.

Second love - stickers!

Adhav's first love was "Bow Bow" (Dogs). When he was 10 months old, he started being crazy of doggies and now it is "Stickers".

These days whenever somebody invites us for kids birthday party - my first and only option for gift is "Books". I try to do some scanning on books and select one appropriate for their age. This time the theme was "Alphabets" and in Kohls we came across this book "My Giant Sticker Activity Book". We wanted to try this book for Adhav too and very happy that we got this book for him. Anytime for any length of time he is ready to play with those stickers. First thing after waking up, he will come to the kitchen, hold my hands and try to pull me to the play mat and ask me -
"Amma , play sticker book".
"Thangam - Amma has to cook. And you first brush your teeth"
"No brushing. Amma, play sticker"

He has become so crazy that 2 days back he slept hugging this book.

Stickers are almost done in this book and I'm not able to get a better sticker book. If you know any good one, do let me know.

Our First Story

Adhav likes books in general. He was 14 or 15 months old and he was getting exposed to "Winnie the Pooh" characters. I had taken a book from the "Winnie the Pooh" series from the local library (not sure about the exact book name). I would have read the story quite a few times and we both liked it very much. So even after we returned the book to library, we recite the story during bedtime, even now and we both like this one the best. This is a more interactive story and it goes something like this.
In 100 acre woods, Pooh bear was doing exercise. How did he do?
"Adhav will do exercise putting his hands up and down."
He became hungry and his tummy started sounding --
Grrrr Grrrr
So what did he eat then -
Aney (Its honey)
How did he eat the honey?
Mum mum mum
That time what came near the window?
Aney Bee (Honey Bee)
Pooh bear followed Honey bee and where did he go?
Tree
yeah there was lot of honey on the top of tree. And Pooh started climbing the trees. When he was about to take the honey, tree branch broke and how did Pooh bear fall down?
Mamaal (He tries for the word Damaal meaning thud)
Then he thinks and got idea to get a Balloon from Christopher Robin. He gets the balloon and goes up near the honey. When about to take the honey, bee finds out Bear and chases him. That time he falls again - ?
Mamaal
Pooh Bear is hungry and plans to goto whose house?
Abbit (It is rabbit, he is still bad at R)
What does Rabbit give for lunch?
Aney
How did he eat it?
Mum mum mum
His tummy became big after eating and how big was it?
(Streches both the hands to show big tummy)
Then Pooh bear says bye bye to rabbit and when he is about go out, his tummy is stuck in the door. Who is coming to see Pooh bear that time?
Owl
then
Donkey
Donkey's name?
Eeyore
then who else came?
Roo
Then all these people will pull Pooh Bear. And Rabbit will push him from inside. He will come out and he will fly into a hole in a tree. how did he come out?
Mamaal
What was there in the tree?
Aney
How did he eat it?
Mum mum mum
Pooh bear was very happy. Over
Done

He wont be satisfied with this story and there will be more sweet babblings before he sleeps finally ..
GoodNight thangam :)

Exchange of roles

Lot of times I'm moved by the way Adhav treats me. Couple of days back, he fell down while going down the stairs. So I had told him to be careful when using stairs. After this, one day we were ready to go down and he started instructing me
"Amma slowly .."
"gently .."
"Amma hold Adhav hands".
I had to hold his little finger and walk down slowly like his kiddo.

Pretend and sleep play is another fun. When we are playing, sometimes I will say that I'm feeling sleepy. Imeediately he will stretch his legs and put my head on his lap and will sing
"Amma sleep .. sleep.."
Not even 10 sec.. later he will start
"Amma wake up wake up".

Exchange of roles is indeed touching :)

Hiccups

It has been a while since I have been thinking that I should start blogging again atleast to write about my son Adhav. Yahoo I made it today!!

Adhav was 15 months old then and we had just moved from Downtown to an apartment in Suburbs. I was so tired arranging things at home and taking care of budding naughtier Adhav. I was trying to feed him his breakfast and he was reluctant to eat as usual. He kept asking
"Amma - thanni" (mom - water)
after eating a piece of Dosa. After offering him couple of times - I lost my patience and said
"Adhu- you eat your dosa and amma will give water after your breakfast"
and I kept the sippy cup off his eyes. He immediately came up,
"Amma - hiccups - wather" (mom - hiccups - water).

I was so surprised hearing a 15 month old speaking like that and gave water when he wasnt getting hiccups either. :) He remembered me offering him to drink water whenever he gets hiccups and used that trick now to get water.

Kids are amazing!
